How To Charge Your Electric Vehicle Anywhere

Easee electric charger

As the UK makes the switch to electric vehicles, a change of mindset is in order. This transition means that instead of searching for the nearest available petrol station, we now need to know where the nearest EV chargers are. We’ve put together a guide that will help you to ensure your vehicle is ready to go, no matter where you are.

How To Use An EV Charger

If you don’t have an electric vehicle, or haven’t got much experience with them, you may have a few questions about how to use an EV charger. Thankfully, the process is really simple – although the process can be slightly different, depending on your exact vehicle and charger model.

EV’s have a few differety types of charging cables. These are known as CCS chargers (for rapid charging) and Type 2 chargers (for standard charging). There is also one more, which is called a CDAdeMO charger. The CDAdeMO charger is being phased out, so it is much less common.

The majority of electric vehicles are supplied with their own Type 2 cables. CCS cables are usually attached to the charging station, so you may not need to own one of these for yourself.

Charging An EV At Home

If you have a home EV charger installation, topping up your range couldn’t be easier. Simply park your car so that the charge point is close enough to the socket, and plug it in. Most home chargers are best used overnight, as they don’t charge the battery as quickly as a commercial rapid charger will.

Charging An EV When Out & About

Longer journeys may demand a quick stop for a recharge. In these instances, you’ll need to stop at a service station or other premises that has chargers available. You usually have to pay to use these, but there are some exceptions. Finding an EV charging station is easy, with many apps available which can search your local area.

Once you’re at the station, you’ll need to plug your vehicle in and pay to charge. Payment is usually taken by card, much like you would do at a petrol station. However, there are some schemes across the UK that accept special EV charging cards which bill you monthly. You can also sometimes pay via a charging station’s app.
